Installation and your first rental product
Requirements: WordPress 6.6+, PHP 8.0+ and an active WooCommerce.
- Install and activate WooCommerce and MadeIT Rentals.
- Edit a simple product. In the General tab of Product data tick Rental.
- The regular price of the product is the price for one night. Also set the units available and the minimum and maximum number of nights.
- In MadeIT Rentals → Settings choose the calendar colour.
How nights are counted Free
A booking occupies the nights from the pick-up day up to the day before the return. The return day stays free for the next customer. A rental from 10 to 13 May is three nights (10, 11 and 12), and on 13 May someone else can pick the product up.
Product settings Free
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Rental | Turns the product into a rental. The regular price is the price per night. |
| Units available to rent | How many units you own. The same product can be booked by several customers at once, up to the number of units free in the chosen dates. |
| Minimum nights | The shortest allowed rental. |
| Maximum nights | The longest allowed rental. Empty means no limit. |
The calendar on the product page Free
- The customer picks a pick-up day and a return day in the calendar. Unavailable dates are greyed out and availability refreshes live.
- Below the calendar a summary shows the number of nights, the price per night and the total. The summary can be switched off in the settings.
- The customer chooses the number of units when the product has more than one.
- Availability is checked when adding to the cart, in the cart and at payment, so two customers cannot take the same dates.
The booking lifecycle Free
A booking is created with the order and blocks units in the calendar right away.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Awaiting payment | The order is placed, the units are blocked. |
| Confirmed | The order is paid. |
| Picked up (with customers) | You mark it when the customer picks the product up. |
| Returned | You mark it after the product is returned. |
| Cancelled | The order was cancelled, failed or refunded. The units go back to the pool. |
The bookings screen Free
MadeIT Rentals → Bookings shows upcoming bookings, pick-ups, returns and the list of bookings.
- Search by booking, order or product ID, and a status filter.
- The details show the product, dates, number of nights, units, price and the order.
- Actions: confirm, mark as picked up, mark as returned, cancel.
Settings Free
- Products: the list of rental products with prices, units and night limits, and shortcuts to edit them.
- Appearance: the accent colour of the calendar and the price summary with a preview, and the "Show the price summary below the calendar" switch.
Extra product fields PRO
- Buffer between bookings (days): days blocked before pick-up and after return, for example for cleaning.
- Deposit per unit: paid with the order and returned after the rental. Empty means no deposit.
- Paid online (%): the part of the rental price paid with the order. 100 means full payment online, less is a prepayment (the rest at pick-up).
Seasonal prices and discounts PRO
- Seasons: a name, a date range (inclusive) and a percentage of the product price, for example 150%. The first matching season wins and empty rows are ignored.
- Long-stay discounts: from a number of nights, a percentage off the whole stay. The highest matching discount applies.
The calendar summary on the product page and the cart both show the discount and the prepayment so the customer sees exactly what is due now.
Booking rules PRO
MadeIT Rentals → Settings → Booking rules: the minimum lead time (how many days before pick-up the customer has to order) and the booking horizon (how far ahead bookings are accepted). They apply to all rental products.
Deposits and handover PRO
- The deposit is added to the cart as a separate line without tax and paid online.
- In the booking details mark the booking as picked up and later as returned.
- After you return the deposit, click "Mark deposit as returned" in the booking.
Editing texts PRO
The Texts tab lets you change every customer-facing label of the calendar, the price summary, the cart lines and the buttons, with a preview next to the form.
Pro license and updates PRO
- Download the add-on from your customer account and upload it in Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Activate it. It needs MadeIT Rentals and WooCommerce to be active.
- In MadeIT Rentals → License paste the 32-character key and click "Save and activate".
Updates for 12 months. After the license expires the add-on keeps working without new versions. The key covers one site.
Troubleshooting
- The Pro fields do not appear in the product: the free plugin must be active and the add-on activated.
- The calendar does not load: check that the REST API is reachable and clear the page cache.
- Dates are unavailable although units are free: check the buffer between bookings, the minimum lead time and the horizon.
- Activation fails: the key has 32 characters, the license is valid and the site limit is not exceeded.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the free plugin as well?
Yes. MadeIT Rentals Pro is an add-on and needs the free MadeIT Rentals plugin from WordPress.org to be installed and active.
Is anything in the free plugin locked until I buy Pro?
No. The free plugin has the full booking calendar, units, minimum and maximum nights, the bookings screen and the complete order flow. Pro adds seasonal prices, discounts, deposits, prepayment, buffers and booking window rules.
How are nights counted?
A booking occupies the nights from the pick-up day up to the day before the return. The return day stays free for the next customer, unless the product has a buffer.
How does the prepayment work?
If a product is paid less than 100% online, the cart shows the remaining part as a negative fee called "Due at pick-up", so the customer pays only the prepayment and the deposit online.
How do I return the deposit?
Return it with your usual payment method, then open the booking and click "Mark deposit as returned" so your records match.
What happens when the license expires?
The installed version keeps working without limits. Only new versions and support are paused until you renew.
How many sites can I use one license on?
One license covers one site. You can detach the site in your customer account and activate the license somewhere else.
Does the add-on send customer data to MadeIT Labs?
No. It sends only the license key and the site address to check the license and download updates.
