MadeIT Accessibility

MadeIT Accessibility prepares the accessibility statement for free. The Pro add-on adds the other half of the obligation: a public form for requests and complaints, reply deadlines that are tracked for you, and an accessibility toolbar for visitors.

Installation and your first statement

MadeIT Accessibility helps public bodies prepare and publish an accessibility statement. The layout follows the model statement of the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs. Check the text against the current wording of the law before you publish it.

  1. Install and activate the plugin. An "Accessibility statement" page with the [madeit_accessibility_declaration] shortcode is created.
  2. Open MadeIT Accessibility → Settings → Statement and fill in the body's details, the dates, the compliance status and the coordinator.
  3. Next to the form you see a live preview of the statement and the completeness check. Save.
  4. On the Display tab choose the page with the statement and turn on the footer link and the skip link.

The statement generator Free

Part of the statementFields
Body and siteName of the body, name of the site, addresses (one per line).
DatesPublication date, last update, date the statement was drafted and the date of the last review.
Compliance with the ActStatus: compliant, partially compliant or not compliant, and the list of inaccessible elements.
How it was preparedSelf-assessment by the body or an audit by an external body, with a description of the method.
CoordinatorName and position, email and phone.
ComplaintsThe authority to appeal to, its address and email.
  • The statement texts are translatable, and the section names have fixed identifiers.
  • The completeness check shows which required fields are missing.
  • Review warning: when more than 12 months have passed since the last review, the admin reminds you to check the site's accessibility and update the date.

Display: page, link and skip link Free

  • Page with the statement: choose the page that holds the shortcode.
  • Footer link to the statement, optional.
  • "Skip to content" link helps keyboard and screen reader users to jump over the menu.

The request and complaint form PRO

Activating the add-on creates a "Report an accessibility problem" page with the <code>[madeit_accessibility_request]</code> shortcode. A link to the form also appears in the statement.

  • The form: type of report (request for accessibility, complaint, problem report), name, contact, the address of the page or element, a description and the preferred way to solve it.
  • Protection: a honeypot field, a rate limit and an optional consent to data processing.
  • The form texts (title, introduction, thank-you message, consent) are edited on the Form tab.

Reports and reply deadlines PRO

MadeIT Accessibility → Reports has a list with the status, the person, the reply deadline and the counters: all, open and past the deadline. The reply deadline is 7 days from the report, extendable to 2 months at the latest.

  • Search by person, contact and text, and a status filter.
  • In the details: the person's data, the text, an internal note (not visible to the person), a status change, extending the deadline and the option "Tell the person about the new deadline by email".
  • An email to the coordinator about every new report and a daily reminder about reports due within a day or already late. Notifications go to the coordinator email from the statement or to the site administrator.
  • A report can be deleted permanently.

The deadlines follow the Polish procedure. Check the wording of the law that applies to you.

The accessibility toolbar PRO

The toolbar lets visitors adjust the page: enlarge the text, switch to high contrast, underline links, add spacing, use a readable font and stop animations. Their choices are remembered in the browser.

SettingDescription
Show the accessibility toolbar on the siteTurns the toolbar on.
PositionOn the left or on the right.
Toolbar nameThe label of the button that opens the toolbar.
Colour schemeLight, dark or high contrast.
Accent colourWith a WCAG AA contrast check: white text on the colour needs at least 4.5:1, and the plugin warns when it is lower.

The toolbar helps adjust the page, but it does not replace WCAG conformance and does not make the site accessible by itself. The "High contrast" scheme has fixed colours.

Pro license and updates PRO

  1. Download the add-on from your customer account and upload it in Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Activate it. It needs the MadeIT Accessibility plugin to be active.
  3. In MadeIT Accessibility → License paste the 32-character key and click "Save and activate".

Troubleshooting

  • The Toolbar and Reports tabs are missing: the free plugin must be active and the add-on activated.
  • Notifications do not arrive: check WordPress email (wp_mail), SMTP and WP-Cron.
  • The link to the form does not appear in the statement: choose the page with the form in the settings.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the free plugin as well?

Yes. MadeIT Accessibility Pro is an add-on and needs the free MadeIT Accessibility plugin from WordPress.org to be installed and active. The free plugin produces the statement.

Is anything in the free plugin locked until I buy Pro?

No. The free plugin is complete: the statement generator, the completeness check, the review warning, the skip link and the footer link. Pro adds the report form with deadlines, the toolbar, colour schemes and editable texts.

Does the toolbar make my website accessible?

No. The toolbar helps visitors adjust the page, but it does not replace conformance with WCAG. The accessibility of your theme, content and documents still has to be fixed at the source.

What are the reply deadlines based on?

The plugin follows the Polish procedure: a reply without delay and no later than within 7 days, extendable to a date no later than 2 months from the request. Check the wording of the law that applies to you.

Is the plugin only for Polish public bodies?

The statement structure follows the Polish model statement that implements the EU Web Accessibility Directive, so it fits Polish bodies best. The texts are translatable.

What happens if I deactivate Pro?

The statement, the skip link and the footer link keep working. The report form, the toolbar and the deadline reminders stop, and the reports stay in the database for when you reactivate Pro.

What happens when the license expires?

The installed version keeps working without limits. Only new versions and support are paused until you renew.

How many sites can I use one license on?

One license covers one site. You can detach the site in your customer account and activate the license somewhere else.
